Brief description of the training:

This workshop aims to introduce the Indonesia Longitudinal Aging Survey (ILAS) 2023, covering the background of the survey, the questionnaire content, data access and download procedures, and guidelines for using the ILAS 2023 dataset.

ILAS 2023 is the first survey in Indonesia to provide representative and comprehensive information on the demographic characteristics, socio-economic conditions, health status, and living environments of the current and future elderly population. As the first wave of ILAS, it was conducted from May to June 2023. The survey interviewed 4,084 respondents aged 45 and above across nine regions—West Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Maluku—selected due to their relatively high proportions of older residents. ILAS 2023 is a collaboration between BAPPENAS, Asian Development Bank (ADB), SurveyMETER, and the Demographic Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (LD FEB UI).

The survey aims to support the government in monitoring Indonesia’s population aging process, implementing data-driven reforms in healthcare and social protection systems across all age groups, and enhancing the design and impact of aging-related policies. ILAS is designed as a longitudinal survey, following the same group of respondents over an extended period, thereby enabling the analysis of aging trajectories across multiple cohorts.
